The implementation of various aspects of the global plan to build pavilions and related facilities for the Expo 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai is running its course. Recently Dubai authorities have chosen a general contractor, who will develop the entire design and will oversee the construction of infrastructure facilities at the Expo 2020 site. US-based construction consultancy Parsons will take this duty.
Parsons will create the whole design and monitor the construction process. Eventually, it will hand over several pavilions, traditional Arab markets souqs and various entertainment facilities on the territory of 438 hectares set for Expo 2020.
According to Gary Adams, Parsons Middle East Africa department president, the company, together with other organizers of the exhibition, will try to implement three key ideas of Expo 2020 — innovation, opportunities and cooperation. Another cornerstone of the whole concept for Expo 2020 implementation in Dubai, namely the introduction of energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies, i.e. the matter of sustainability, will also form the basis for the infrastructure development by Parsons at the Expo 2020 site.
Three large exhibition pavilions at the Expo 2020,forming the basic structure of the whole site, will reflect three abovementioned ideas. Exhibition central zone will be named by the old Arab naming of Dubai — Al Wasl (which means "the link"), and Dubai Trade Center - Jebel Ali built there will continue to function as a research center and university after the exhibition.
Currently, Parsons is also engaged in construction of the Dubai channel and building new link roads to the Dubai Parks and Resorts entertainment destination in Dubai.
