Totally in line with the urban development strategy Dubai Plan 2021 launched by the Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate's infrastructure is scheduled to be raised into completely different, internationally-significant level in a couple of years. That is why Dubai has recently seen so many construction launches relating to facilities, which are about to glorify the emirate in the entire world.
Just another link in a chain of super-important infrastructure units changing the face of Dubai will be presented by Dubai Arena, a new venue for entertainment, sports and cultural global events. This grand structure spanning over an area of half a million square feet is being constructed in the heart of Dubai by developer Meraas. It is about to accommodate up to 20,000 visitors, and will definitely help to implement the tourism development strategy for Dubai with the intention to attract about 45 million visitors herei by 2021, annually.
So far, the whole region, including Dubai, was lacking such a leisure and entertainment facility capable to accommodate large scale international music concerts, sporting events such as hockey and NBA, as well as other entertainment events. And now, given the construction of the Dubai Opera and Dubai Arena, the city will have at least two of them.
But Dubai Arena surely overscales the Opera both in size and in functional part: its construction implies automated malleable seats which enables the venue to transform according to the scale of the event being held, from theater to stadium and back, making this mega-construction truly omni-purpose. Dubai Arena will be strategically located in the very center of Dubai, at the City Walk, connected to Dubai Metro and in close proximity to the Dubai International Airport, also surrounded by a number of hospitality, F&B, entertainment and shopping options.
By creating such a grand indoor air-conditioned entertainment complex as Dubai Arena, Dubai will now be able to host global events of a scale previously not seen in the region yet, due to the lack of a suitable platform for holding similar events.
The construction of Dubai Arena has already begun, and it is expected that the first event here can be hosted at the end of 2018.
“This innovative world class arena will put Dubai on the international entertainment touring circuit and make a major contribution to the Emirate’s continued development as a major tourism destination,” Harvey Lister, CEO of AEG Ogden, the world renowned managing company, chosen to manage Dubai Arena, said.
