On Monday, the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum held an official ceremony of ground-breaking at the construction site for the new world’s tallest tower called simply The Tower and being the part of an ambitious Dubai Creek Harbour project.
Thus, the race for the right to host the new world’s highest building now has two main rivals: the Dubai developer Emaar building The Tower in collaboration with Dubai Holding, and the developer behind Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia also competing to name it the new world highest building.
The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour project will cost around US $ 1 billion to build, although the structure will be rather iconic than utilitarian in its further usage — it will become a main dominant of the area aimed also to promote the emirate as the world’s renown center for super-tall structures. The Tower is going to have a really impressive appearance — a skyrocketing needle-spire in the ring of other buildings resembling flower petals dropping down. However, it won’t be nor residential, neither office building, but rather a museum hosting the world's highest observation deck, a niche hotel with a super-premium F&B concepts, and, surely, a tourist destination. Yet, the developer hasn’t so far disclosed any more precise information of what the building will have inside.
The Tower's closest neighbors — two 40-storey high-rises connected with a podium with some townhouses between them, will house 500 residential apartments already available at a price of USD 269,000 per unit, with extremely convenient payment plan.
As for the height of The Tower, the developer still isn’t inclined to disclose its ultimate goal, but is determined to break the world record again, which means building a 1000 plus meters tower, for this is the actual announced height of its competitor, Jeddah Tower. For comparison, the current world’s highest tower Burj Khalifa is 828 meters tall and has 160 floors.
Mohammad Alabbar, Emaar’s Chairman, said: “From Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, Burj Khalifa and now The Tower, Dubai has been the centre of innovation for super-tall structures and breakthrough developments in design, architecture and engineering. We are pushing our boundaries in every aspect of this new master-planned development, one of the largest in the world, which underlines the spirit of positivity and hope that our nation celebrates.”
The Tower designed by the world’s famous architect Santiago Calatrava Valls will also have a certain lightness of touch unlike other skyscrapers of a similar stature, while movement lighting will make it a “stunning visual landmark during the day and night”. The Tower is scheduled for completion by 2020.
